This winter, Ithaca’s award-winning Sciencenter hosts a new, hands-on exhibition, “Toys: The Inside Story.” If your parents never let you break open your Etch A Sketch® to find out how it works, or if you've been wondering how to stop your toddler's push toy from making such an infernal racket, you'll love Toys: The Inside Story. This exhibition illustrates the simple mechanisms commonly found in toys and lets visitors of all ages create their own toy-like combinations of gears, pulleys, linkages, cams, and circuits. In addition to "Toys: The Inside Story," the Sciencenter has more than 200 interactive science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a seasonal science-themed miniature golf course, an animal room and a gift shop. While you’re visiting, be sure to check out the companion exhibit, “Tree Houses” and explore firsthand who lives in the trees through stereoscopic viewfinders, tracking clues, natural artifacts and sound. Return with your students this spring to experience the Sciencenter’s educational field trips and unique science education programs. The Sciencenter will get your students excited about science while complementing your classroom lessons. The Sciencenter’s pre- and post-visit activities and materials will extend your students’ Sciencenter experience far beyond your field trip visit. To learn more, check out the Sciencenter’s field trip programs and outreach activities online at www.sciencenter.org. *Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, noon-5 p.m. Open President’s Day.
